“New Life Empowerment Group”

Facilitator:  Dr. Willie Moody, MPH, MTS, CPRP (Chosen Generation Community Corporation)

Vision Statement:

The “New Life Empowerment Group” (NLE) is a structured behavioral modification group whose objective is to create a therapeutic milieu conducive for healthy and wholesome discovery of the “self” with an emphasis on the spiritual dimension, in an effort to address counterproductive behavioral patterns.  Research studies have documented the positive relationship between spirituality and health and well-being. Spiritual distress can be defined as the impaired ability to experience and integrate meaning and purpose in life through connectedness with self, others and a higher power.  The Spiritual Dimension is an effective therapeutic tool used to empower individuals with an additional resource to circumvent illicit behavioral patterns.  The group provides In-Service topic specific agenda items relevant to the residential population at the agency and facilitate a time for healthy sharing and feedback from the facilitators and group members.  The goal is to provide a safe environment which would allow residents to discover new behaviors and thought patterns consistent with clear ethical values.  The facilitators are professional clinicians equipped to provide psychological evaluations/assessments and accomplish said goals and objectives.

Justification:

With the increased incidence and prevalence of mental health issues, physical disabilities, depression, and addictive behaviors being recognized and reported among the Windsor Gardens population, the need for an effective therapeutic milieu to address these issues has become apparent.  Consumers present with mental health issues, physical disabilities, addictive behaviors, anger issues, post-traumatic stress, family issues, spiritual distress, grief issues, domestic violence and other behavioral psycho-social issues.
